Setting the table to reflect the season....
Summer is a beautiful time of year to entertain!
Here are some tips and tricks for bringing the sunny season to your table.
This table is so refreshing! We started with a neutral gold-beige table runner, then added crisp white dinnerware. Napkins in pale green and pale turquoise add a soothing touch. Glassware is also refreshing, even when it is filled with colorful foods and drinks. The wovens and rattans in the centerpieces add a tropical feeling, along with the tropical greenery. Finally, lemons add the power of yellow. Yellow is a powerful neutral that refreshes room decor and table settings alike. Hold your fingers over the lemons and see the difference they make. Lemons, yellow flowers, yellow vases -- lots of ways to bring a little touch of yellow to your table. Put it all together for a wonderful summer table.
Beautiful dinnerware, beautiful linens! Notice that both the dinnerware and the tablecloth are patterned, yet they look beautiful together. That is because we placed a charger under the plate. A charger will frame your plate and separate it one level from your table linens. What would have otherwise been a busy combination is now a beautiful combination. Add a splashy color in your centerpiece, like these spectacular deep coral peonies, and mirror that color in the napkins. Your table is set!
Plain, simple and effective! You can pull together the khaki look by keeping everything on your table in the neutral colors -- ecrus, beiges, khaki green or soft green, and browns. Add some wicker or rattan, a few plants, and you have a refreshing summer table!
When we think of summer, we often think of bright, bold colors, and bright yellow and bright orange lead the way! A bright yellow placemat will bring a table setting to life. Here, it acts as a neutral to really show off the bright orange dinner plate. Add some rattan and some large tropical flowers, and you have an enticing tropical paradise right on your table!
The coastal look is embodied in several color ranges, but all seem to include a tropical blue / turquoise color. We contrasted that with a coral placemat to match our napkins, but white or off white dinnerware with turquoise napkins, or alternating turquoise and coral napkins on the table can create a similar effect. Add some ocean-inspired accents to complete the look.
Whites and greens are always elegant, especially in the summer, because the colors are clean and fresh. But this setting also shows it is just as much what you serve as how you serve it. Colorful and fresh fruits, salads and vegetables will make your table look (and taste!) like summer.
